New Paint

Monk gets a new look in 2012.

Glow In The Heart

A design/branding opportunity came up as my lovely gal begins the process of starting a new business. Designing logos and identity is one of my favorite things to work on though I rarely get that chance. I can’t take all the credit for this… it was very much a collaborative process. I thought of the name, she intuitively thought of “a heart-shaped lightbulb”, and then I started sketching. Here’s the final result.

A Helluva Machine

Dig this Panhead… to be in the forthcoming issue of DicE Mag.

Cool Sporty

Llaves

I’d like to make one of these…

Rust-o-leum

That looks a’ight. Just needs some new white wall tires for the finishing touch. Painted the wheels using Rust-o-leum primer and gloss black enamel.

Chevy Orange

Also threw on some new valve covers and breathers. Lookin’ handsome.

Brown Socks

Sorry for the brief lull… I’m a busy man! Painted Gumby’s wheels black this week, and did a thorough detail of the interior. I probably blew out a couple pounds of dirt from the inside. It was owned by a gardener after all…

Carburador

Gumby’s new carb arrived… This should help it consume less fuel, give it more and instantaneous power AARRRGGHH, and start easier. But alas, I cannot install it until I get a dozen other parts.

Ice Cream Truck

Saw this fine specimen of an ice cream truck yesterday while I was having lunch. That’s a gorgeous yellow.

Missing My Dear Old Friend

Monk’s been out of commission for the past few weeks and it’s driving me apeshit. It needs either new valve guides, rings, or both. And I need to ride… I need to get that feeling. This has got me even contemplating getting a new modern bike so I can just ride. The mantra “Fuck it, let’s ride” just ain’t workin’ right now.

Tools

Green With Envy

As seen at the local Target parking lot. Gives me some good ideas for my Gumby, which I got to work on over this past weekend… Sprayed Gunk on the engine to clean off all the baked on grease from years of neglect, installed a new engine fan and fan shroud, and installed some new stainless eye hooks in the truck bed so I can start using it as a motorcycle and equipment hauler. My good friend Mark, who was a former GMC dealership mechanic had a look at Gumby a few weeks ago and everything basically checks out good. He fixed a couple of vacuum leaks and made some performance recommendations which I’m saving up for, but for the time being, Gumby’s tip top. Will be replacing the transmission and differential gaskets in the coming weeks, and making slight aesthetic enhancements by painting the wheels. More to come…
